Italian quality and luxury

The Joséphine Altavilla ceramic dinnerware collection is entirely made in the renowned workshop of Guado Tadino, the same where once her grandfather created, a place of tradition located in the heart of the mountains of Umbria where the art of handling, baking and decorating clay remained of the centuries. Joséphine Altavilla, in close link with the local craftsmen has developed unique pieces to match our day to day life whilst transmitting the colours of her native region and their manual ability to transform the material. It is a unique dinnerware collection where the sensuality of unpretentious luxury adapts to the needs of all who enjoy simplicity of good taste.
Ceramic dinnerware
In the region of Umbria in Italy, Joséphine Altavilla has her roots but there is also a ceramic factory where she is free to let creativity flow … this is where her handcrafted and exclusive dinnerware collection saw the light. Each plate, bowl or mug is an original piece, as it is made by hand, from terracotta to paint, mixing precision and ancestral expertise as well as materials and colours.
Among the 3 first lines: Pastels, Timeless and Decorated, one distinguishes soft and warm tones like the association of chocolate and pink in Bi Ciocco Rosa, clean lines in immaculate white or intense black with the Bianco Loft and Nero, an incredibly vibrant red with the Rosso Zen and eventually a model of classicism and charm with the Bianco Volute or a richness of colours and textures like a real change of scenery with the Mexico, Indiana or Gubbio collection.
Her eyes sharpened and senses stimulated by years spent in a world of excellence and luxury, Joséphine Altavilla has kept a demystified approach on beautiful objects: to correspond to our busy, stressful lives it should always be simple and functional, of quality and good taste.
Thus the collection of objects selected by her today is the reflection of her lifestyle, accessible, light with a touch of humour. One can find mixed, matched, accessories to embellish any table: candlesticks, hurricanes, vases, candles in shapes of birds, teddy bears … ironware fruit baskets. This material comes in a variety of forms : hat stands, bird cages, dish towel hangers and even children furniture. There are also other materials like rattan: breadbaskets for the table, fabric lined baskets for homekeeping, brass for boxes, wall lights, flowerpots and even a console, and of course wood, omnipresent.
At Joséphine Altavilla, all our senses are solicited. The beautiful joins the good and the materials gratify the touch. A real harmony exudes from it and you just want to make it yours!
Joséphine Altavilla´s taste and calling for ceramic is not unusual. Her grandfather Giovanni Marini was a well-known decorative artist and ceramic painter, called “le francais” the Frenchman. First in the Umbria region (Italy) where he was successful in cities like Denta, Gubbio and Gualdo Tadino. Later he moved to Monaco where he was asked to inaugurate a traditional ceramic factory, Cerdazur, which lasted over two decades amidst a flourishing luxury market. Today one can still encounter pieces signed by Marini easily recognisable by it’s exquisite taste and remarkable brushstroke in Antique stores or prestigious decoration shops of the Principality and surroundings.
No doubt Joséphine Altavilla has inherited her artistic side from family tradition, enhanced by her experience in the Gastronomy and Catering world alongside renowned chef like Alain Ducasse and a brand named Hediard. From there Joséphine Altavilla managed to modernize the ancestral profession giving her creations innovating forms, ingenious proportions and new finishes, which has found a strong echo in the luxury craft industry not withholding the fact that ceramic is an attractive material by it´s originality, quality and sensuality.
Through her profoundly Mediterranean origins, her personal culinary and gastronomical experience at the side of utmost demanding professionals, Joséphine Altavilla has developed an almost instinctive sense for unearthing what is beautiful and good, simple yet festive. Moreover she insists on sharing home recipes, practical and entertaining, essential daily, her tips and good things that provide life with lightness … simplicity, beauty, goodness and practicality. This sensibility and curiosity of each instant intertwined with her sense of sharing Joséphine Altavilla puts it to profit in her everyday life and now in her showroom with the products that surround her.
